giphy

FYI – we could use some staff supervision support for the event, particularly from 2:45 – 4:30.  Any staff can partake in this.  If you are in classes from 12-2:30, let me know if you plan on attending the party once the school ends!

Schedule:

  • Core 1 – 8:00 – 9:17
  • Core 2 – 9:22 – 10:39
  • Core 3 – 10:44 – 12:00
  • Lunch – 12:05 – 12:35
  • Festivities – 12:35 – 4:15 (kids can go home at 2:30 if they want)
  • Departure – 4:10 – 4:30 students will depart the event area and board the activity bus/picked up by parents

Needs:

  • Student Supervision I need two volunteers to house non-attendees in a classroom from 12:35 – 2:30.  Please email me directly if you are willing to do this.
  • Event Supervision:  8th grade teachers, we will rely on your supervision during the event.  I have attached a map that shows areas where we need supervision.  Activities will take place in the main gym and outside.  Those are the main areas where coverage is needed.  We will need 2-3 people on each side of the gym (it will be partitioned) as well as outside at each inflatable and near the game/snow cone area.  We will need all of your help on this; however, you can also use this as an opportunity to interact with our 8th graders and have some fun!
    • We will flag off areas where we do not want students entering/exiting — you will see this on the map that is attached.
      • The weather is currently looking good for this event, but we are prepared to move the event inside if needed.

Other Details:

  • Lunch time will be specially made and hosted by Chartwells.  Lunch will be served and consumed in the student center.  We will have a system for students to purchase lunch (using their lunch code).  Let students know that they do need to purchase lunch as they would during regular lunch.  They can bring a lunch if they’d like.
  • There will be bracelets for students to wear for admission into the event, but they also help us determine who has filled out waivers to participate in Bubble Soccer.  Kim will be working to get students their bracelets either during lunch time or in classes.
  • Once lunch is over and we start admitting students, we will also navigate non-attending students to the classroom that is volunteered.   We will connect with teachers on this ahead of time so you know who your students are.
  • If students have backpacks, we will have them check their backpacks in as they enter so they are secure and out of the way.
  • Supervision will be important.  We will work to flag off areas and keep everything contained.  Students will not be permitted to leave/re-enter.

Reminder: Early Release Wednesday

Wednesday will be our final building-led early release.  This year, our focus has been on creating and using intentional unit plans and we had a goal of creating a building-wide curriculum map answering the questions, What does the story of learning look like at Frontier?, How do these learning experiences reflect what we value?

To accomplish this, PLCs need to bring their units of study as step 1 will be mapping out their year of learning.  You will be given work time in PLCs and Departments to flesh this out (also some PBIS time).

Thanks and we will see you Wednesday!  We will begin at 12:30 in the Media Center.

Frontier Drama Department Presents – The Treasure of Shiver River

Come one, come all!  This Wednesday and Thursday evening in the Student Center, Mr. Butenschoen and his drama department will be presenting our annual production.  This year, they bring us The Treasure of Shiver River.  This is a great chance to see our students in a different light, taking risks and showcasing their talents.  A big shout out to all of the staff that help get this program up and running, as well as to the Butenschoen family for working so hard to prep the kids.  It’s quite the undertaking.  Below is a sneak peak trailer that the kids shot last week.  See you at the show!

8th Grade Elective Teachers – Please Read!

Just a reminder that on Wednesday, May 1st, students attending Heritage High School will attend a 30 minute session with Heritage Administration and Counseling staff regarding the transition to high school next year.  This is connected to grant work Heritage is doing around the transition from 8th to 9th grade and improving student success, on-time graduation, etc.

We have grouped students into three sections so they can fit into the library.  All attending students will receive a pass indicating what group they are in and what time they will be attending.  They will use the pass to attend the session (in the library) and then use the pass to return to class.

Students will need to bring their backpacks and chromebooks to the session, as Heritage staff will ask them to take a survey.

1st Group:  12:50 – 1:20

2nd Group:  1:25 – 1:55

3rd Group:  2:00 – 2:30

5th period teachers!  Students attending the second session will arrive late to 5th period.  Please take their pass and ensure that they are not absent.  If a kid shows up without a pass, they are not excused.

Thank you for your support and thanks to our T-Wolf family for reaching out to our incoming kids!

162.-college-bound-scholarship-washington

Just a reminder that any 7th grader who submitted their college bound application will be attending a social from 9:40 – 10:50.

During this time, the social will have activities occurring the locations listed below.  Elective teachers, we could use your support in supervising any of the students if you are available during this time.  I’ve listed how many folks we will need in each location:

  • Large Gym (5 adults) – one side dodgeball, other side one or two basketball hoops; a few tables out for board games and a photo booth; music playing; rootbeer floats
  • Library (2 adults)
  • 216 (1 or 2 adults depending on number of students) – this space will be used to house any students who do not turn in their slips.  Will be updated in terms of number.

Lesley, Heather, Quinn and Chris thank you for your support in this college bound effort – this could be the difference for many of our families attaining a college education for their student without financial barrier!

Supporting our Silverback Family

There have been a few events that have transpired over the past couple of weeks that have many of us wondering about how we can support members of our Silverback/Evergreen family.

  1. As shared before break, Dustin Allen’s daughter, Evelyn, is fighting pediatric cancer.  You can follow her progress and learn about how to support Ev and the Allen family through her CaringBridge site.  You can access the site here.
  2. Many of us also recently learned of the passing of Chris Tschirgi.  Chris is a former EPS employee and part of the Frontier family as his spouse, Lisa, was a former principal at Frontier.  A celebration of life is scheduled for Chris on Saturday, April 13th @ 10:30, located at the Vancouver Funeral Chapel (110 E 12th St. Vancouver, WA 98660)

Associate Principal Appreciation!

This week is dedicated towards Assistant Principal Appreciation.  Please join me in thanking Marshall Pendleton and Ebony Kee-McKenzie for all that they do to support our school.  I, for one, am incredibly grateful for their service and support at Frontier.  THANK YOU both for all that you do!!

Digital Citizenship Monday!

davis-169hero-citizenship-shutterstock

This week’s Character Strong Monday will be replaced by our 3rd Digital Citizenship lesson on – the guiding question to relate back to Character Strong is:  How do I show RESPECT for other people’s work?

Each lesson has a group activity, the links are provided on the slide deck to print if you feel like the groups need  a printed prompt rather than the slide deck.  The Slide Decks will also be in the student’s LIB 600, 700, 800 Google Classroom for any links and activities.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns or something is working.

Staff Panorama Survey

giphy

Each year, we ask both certificated and classified employees to complete a Panorama survey.  This provides feedback relative to your experience working at Frontier and in Evergreen.  Please note that there are questions that pertain to Frontier and questions that pertain to Evergreen as a district.  There are two links below, one for certificated staff and one for classified staff.

This information is very valuable for me as a principal, so I thank you in advance for completing this survey.  Please complete this survey by Friday, March 29th.
