Early Release – End of Trimester

Frontier Gear!

Thank you Classified Employees!

This week is Classified Employee Appreciation Week.  As we all know, our classified employees are an amazingly critical component of Frontier Middle School – quite frankly, we could not do the work without their undivided effort and energy!  At Frontier, I believe we have one of the greatest classified staffs in all of Evergreen Public Schools.

This week, we will plan to take care of our wonderful classified folks.  Please take a moment to tell one – or more – of our classified employees how much you appreciate their efforts!!

Thank you!  Thank you!  Thank you for all that you do!!!

Plan for Wednesday, March 14th

Please check your email – Griffin will send detailed plans regarding Wednesday, March 14th.  Thank you!

ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) and Targeted Support @ FMS

I wanted to follow up regarding the closing comments of last Wednesday’s early release regarding Frontier MS receiving “targeted support” from the state for our two student groups:  Special Education and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander.

As this is a new system of identification and support from OSPI, there is naturally a lot to learn.  What I can say is that – as always – we will continue to identify ways to support the growth of all students as well as those identified as needing targeted support.  The video linked below is a presentation from OSPI that does a nice job of explaining how the new system is structured and what it means for schools:

nConnect – Rescheduled for This Week!

nConnect Career Panel from 2017

Please see the email below from Chris Turner (Career Guidance Counselor):

We have rescheduled the 8th grade career presentation/panel event (Nconnect) for Friday, March 16th.  The itinerary will remain the same with the obvious exception to the date change.

On Friday 3/16/2018 (a week from this Friday) 8th grade students will be participating in our annual nConnect Career Panel presentations.  These presentations have been very powerful in the past and provide students with some connections between their work with me in the Future Ready program.  Since this is an early release day, we will be on somewhat of a tight schedule so quick transitions between classes/sessions are essential.
The following is the schedule and the specific requests of you/your discipline:
Thursday (3/15/18)
Math Teachers:
On this day, please show the Nconnect Prezi (a ten minute Prezi previously emailed) and have students list a minimum of one relevant question on a 3×5 card (this was be previously provided in your boxes).  Feel free to use the Prezi as you deem necessary.  The Prezi informs students of quality questions to ask the panel members and/or future employers.  Have the student to write their name on the card, collect them and then redistribute them to the students the day of the panel presentation (The Prezi and note cards should only take 10-15 minutes) There will be a Q&A time for students to use their questions for the panel members.  .
Friday (3/16)
Science Teachers:
Students will report to their respective classes in which teachers will be quickly check attendance then head immediately to library.  Students should take backpacks with them to the assembly as they will leave the assembly and proceed directly to their next class.  The panel presentation (including Q&A) will take up the entire class time and students will transition from the library to their next class.

Monday (3/19)

Humanities Teachers:
Students will complete an nConnect survey in their Humanities classes on Monday, 3/19.   Again, the surveys will be in your boxes next week.  Please collect the completed forms and place them in Chris Turner‘s box. This should only take 10 minutes!

PLEASE let me know if you have any questions.

-Chris Turner
